I am back in California where the gas prices are high and you can no longer talk on your cell phone while driving without a hand-free device. Both of these things are a small price to pay to be in this blessed land. Since gas is a million dollars, I try not to drive unless I absolutely need to go some place... seeing as I have no job and no school I guess I don't really NEED to go anywhere but, you know what I mean. So today I drove somewhere and it was the first time I operated a vehicle for about 48 hours. I am pretty sure i had not forgotten how to drive in these past two days. So many horrible things were happening to me on the road and... i must say that none of them were my fault. I was driving in a neighborhood and a kid shot out of his driveway on his bike right in front of me and did not even look for cars. I almost hit and killed him. That definitely would have made my day. Good thing the number one thing i fear is hitting a child so I was definitely under the 25 MPH speed limit in the neighborhood. Seriously though? Where were the parents of the kid? Parents should be well aware if they have idiots for children and if the kids do not know how to properly play outside then they should probably have some supervision. Getting off subject.. a parenting blog will come later. Then a little bit later (it was dark outside) a man was riding his bike wearing all black and i would have hit him if Kelly Jo had not yelled "BIKER!!!" Dear freaking bicyclists can we please bust out the highlighter colored shirts for evening rides. Good Gosh!!! But the really kicker came when I was waiting to turn left into a shopping center when the car next to me (who was also turning left because there are two lanes that simultaneously turn left... i know it's a new concept) came into my lane almost side swiping my front end while we are turning, cut me off and stopped because they had to turn into the first row of parking stalls and stop all of the traffic behind us. And... guess what... The lovely driver was not only driving like crap but she was talking on her cell phone NOT hands-free! On July 1, 2008 the hands-free cell phone law came into effect in the state of California. NEWSFLASH!!! it has been in the news for like... forever! I often find myself saying "Where is a cop when you need one?" But... Today you know what, law enforcement came through for me. There was a Highway Patrol driving right behind me. He threw those patriotic red and blue lights on and gave that dumb lady that almost crashed into me and was talking on her cell phone while driving a ticket. It may be a sin, but I did not feel bad for her one bit.
The moral of the story is Karma is a... you know what I am thinking but I will leave it for your own interpretation.
